Business Prerequisites

For students who do not have a bachelor’s degree in business, four business courses must be fulfilled during the M.B.A. program prior to taking certain courses. Cedarville's Center for Lifelong Learning contracts with Ivy Software to provide non-credit options for completing the prerequisite courses online. Each course is competitively priced at $140.

  • Financial Accounting – A working knowledge of accounting is critical to success in business. Accounting information underlies most strategic and operational decisions made by management. The purpose of this course is to supply managers with a knowledge of the objectives of accounting and to provide the tools necessary to interpret accounting information.
  • Managerial Accounting – A working knowledge of managerial accounting is critical to success in business. This course is a good overview of job order and process costing, fixed and variable costs, budgets, variances and activity-based costing, and steps in the capital budgeting process.
  • Fundamentals of Economics – The purpose of this course is to provide managers with fundamental economic principles, which they may use to think critically about micro and macro economic events.
  • Business Statistics – Statistics and basic mathematics skills play an important role in understanding key functions within and external to the company. Therefore, an understanding of these topics is important for managers. The purpose of this course is to give the user a broad overview of the basic math and statistics necessary for business and to introduce the most popular forms of forecasting techniques.

Each of these courses is made up of five to six self-paced units. Most students average one unit per week. At the completion of the course, an online final exam will be administered. Students have two attempts to accomplish a passing score of 75 percent. Each course passed will be awarded 10 contact hours for continuing education credit. Register for one or more of the prerequisite courses, or contact the Center for Lifelong Learning with any questions.
