Cedarville Nursing Program Earns Further Accreditation

by Public Relations Office

Cedarville, Ohio—Cedarville University’s Department of Nursing has been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), an autonomous, national accreditation agency. The accreditation is for ten years and no compliance issues were cited. Cedarville’s department of nursing was initially accredited by the National League for Nursing (NLN) in 1985 and re-accredited in 1993 with no recommendations for improvement. When CCNE was established as an evaluator of nursing baccalaureate and graduate education programs and was recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education, the department of nursing sought out evaluation by this special commission. Cedarville’s outstanding report came after a three-day on-site evaluation. Representatives of CCNE reviewed a University self-study and interviewed nursing faculty, students, and alumni. They also obtained feedback from non-nursing faculty, staff, students, administrators, and alumni to gain information about the University’s computer, library, academic, and career services offerings. Dr. Irene Alyn, chair of the department of nursing, said, “Our goal was to participate in this evaluation process in a way that would bring glory to God, be a strong testimony for Jesus Christ, and demonstrate the excellence of Cedarville University’s nursing program. The outstanding report resulted from God’s blessing, the excellence of the department of nursing students and faculty, support from Cedarville administrators and other departments, and the outstanding facilities.” The department’s facilities are located in the Engineering, Nursing, Science Center, which provides up-to-date equipment and a wing designed to look like a hospital. The nursing program is one of the most popular on campus, offering a bachelor of science in nursing (B.S.N.) degree to more than 200 students. The department also offers a minor in cross-cultural nursing.
