Cedarville, Ohio—David Schmidt, assistant professor of management at Cedarville University, recently earned his Ph.D. from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. In December he successfully defended his dissertation, “The Effects of Empathic Concern and Knowledge of Commonly Taught Organizational Behavior Models on Transformational Leaders Behavior: Do Empathy and Knowledge of Organizational Behavior Models Impact Leadership?” Schmidt said he chose this topic because he is interested in the correlation between emotional intelligence and leadership. “What we discovered was that there is a relationship between empathy and the subcomponents of leadership,” he explained. Schmidt, his wife, Barbara, and their five children reside in Xenia. He has been teaching at Cedarville University since 1998. In addition to his doctoral degree, he holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Nebraska-Kearney and two master’s degrees from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
