Local High School Students Selected for Cedarville University Music Showcase

Cedarville, Ohio—A number of area high school students have been selected to participate in Cedarville University`s Music Showcase Concert, which will be held Saturday, Feb. 22 in the Jeremiah Chapel of the Dixon Ministry Center. The concert begins at 2 p.m. Participating students from across the United States were nominated by their high school choir or band director to participate in the Music Showcase`s honor band or honor choir. Approximately 225 students from around the nation will join for rehearsals, University auditions, and the showcase performance. The honor band, conducted by Michael DiCuirci, and honor choir, directed by Dr. Lyle Anderson, both Cedarville professors, will perform a variety of selections including "The Last Words of David" by Randall Thompson, "A Red, Red Rose" by James Mulholland, "This is My Father`s World" by Mike Paslay, "The Washington Post" by John Philip Sousa, "Into the Joy of Spring" by James Swearingen, "Hoosier Suite" by Robert W. Smith, and a combined rendition of "The Battle Hymn of the Republic," arranged by Peter Wilhousky. Honor band participants from the Dayton area are: Cedarville High School: Katie Chasnov, Erin Hayes Centerville High School: Matthew Monroe Dayton Christian High School: Paula Becker, Nicole Hallmark, Sarah Kovar, Richard Miller, Alexander Protos, Mary Roberts, Adam Shaeffer Southeastern High School (Springfield): Sam Benham, Jaime Bright-Wittman Troy Christian High School: Gary Blacklidge, Abigail Jelley, Carmen Mendenhall Honor choir participants from the Dayton area are: Cedarville High School: Karen Grooms Dayton Christian High School: Anna Combs, Annie Craddock, Joel Fenstermaker, Ashley Hume, Nathan Lane, Matt Mingus, Kindrea Tatum Shawnee High School (Springfield): Jennifer Shaw Troy Christian High School: Amanda Lamb, Seth Robins Xenia Christian High School: Andrew Kibelbek, Lora Pacholka, Hilary Young. In addition to the high school concert, the University`s music department will offer a musical extravaganza on Friday, February 21 at 6 p.m. in the Dixon Ministry Center. This concert will feature many of the University`s vocal and instrumental ensembles, such as brass choir, concert chorale, harp ensemble, string quartet, jazz band, Jubilate, men`s glee club, orchestra, symphonic band, women`s choir, and jazz singers.
