Cedarville, Ohio-Cedarville University has named Dr. Hayes Wicker, pastor of First Baptist Church in Naples, Fla., as its newest trustee. Wicker will serve a three-year term. Dr. Bill Brown, president of Cedarville University, stated, "Dr. Hayes Wicker is the epitome of a pastor who loves his people and teaches them to engage the culture. His presence on the board will only strengthen the already incredibly strong group that leads Cedarville University." Wicker received his undergraduate degree from Grand Canyon University. He holds an M.Div. and D.Min. from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Wicker has pastored First Baptist Church of Naples since 1992. Since then, church attendance and membership have more than tripled, and the annual budget has grown by more than 500 percent. In addition, a Christian school was founded, four new churches were started, and 67 new ministries were created. Wicker currently serves on the Southern Baptist Convention Committee on Nominations. He has also served as an officer of the Oklahoma Baptist Convention and on numerous other national and state convention committees. Wicker has been guest chaplain at the U.S. Senate and preached at the Southern Baptist Convention. Wicker will speak at Cedarville University on Tuesday and Wednesday, Nov. 16-17. His presentation will begin at 10 a.m. in the Jeremiah Chapel of Cedarville University`s Dixon Ministry Center. Wicker`s message is free and open to the public.
