Cedarville, Ohio—Cedarville University will host the Miami Valley Awana Games Saturday, March 6 at 10 a.m. in the Callan Athletic Center on the Cedarville campus. Approximately 900 K-6 children from Miami Valley churches are expected to attend; most are from Clark, Greene, and Montgomery counties. The Games include running races, balloon games, tug of war, and relays. Kindergarten-2nd grade activities begin at 10 a.m.; 3rd-6th grade games begin at 1 p.m. Awana leaders Mark and Karen Isaacson of Shawnee Hills Baptist Church in Jamestown plans to bring approximately 55 children to the Games. The church has sent students to the Games for almost all of the 16 years that the University has been hosting the event. Cindy Shumaker, mother of three Shawnee Hills Awana participants, said, "All three of our boys have really enjoyed participating in the Awana Games over the years. ... The Awana Games are a great opportunity for the kids to experience good sportsmanship in action. It really isn`t important to win. It is just fun to play on a team and cheer for each individual to do his best!" Teresea Baumann, another Shawnee Hills Awana mom, added, "Awana is fun because if a child isn`t in athletics elsewhere, it gives that child a moment to shine." Awana is an international, Bible-centered youth ministry providing local churches with weekly clubs and programs for pre-schoolers through high schoolers. The organization`s activities include fun and competitive games, a message that focuses on the gospel and applying God`s Word to daily life, memorizing Bible verses, singing, and earning awards.
