Local High School Students to Perform in 18th Anniversary Music Showcase

Cedarville, Ohio—High school students from Ohio and across the country have been selected to participate in Cedarville University`s annual Music Showcase Concert. The concert will be held Saturday, Feb. 21 in the Dixon Ministry Center at 2 p.m. This is the 18th annual Showcase weekend. Cedarville Professor of Music Michael DiCuirci directs the honor band. He is excited about this year`s group. "About 200 students, representing 12 different states, will be coming from public and Christian schools for the Thursday-Saturday experience," he said. "These are good high school musicians. Some schools have sent kids every year for all 20 years." The honor choir is directed by Dr. Lyle Anderson, professor of music. Students are nominated by their high school choir or band director to participate in the honor choir or honor band. In addition to experiencing college life, the students will attend rehearsals and give the showcase performance. The honor band and honor choir will perform a variety of selections including: "Night" by William Blake/David Sasso, "The Awakening" by Joseph M. Martin, "Zahal March" (the official march of the Israli Army) by Yoav Talmi, and "Upon these Wings" (on the 100th anniversary of the invention of powered flight) by David Schaffer. The concert will end with a combined rendition of "The Battle Hymn of the Republic." Honor band participants from the Dayton area are: Cedarville High School: Nora Chasnov, Kelby Dierking, Erin Hayes, Jaclyn Pingel, Luke Tucker Centerville High School: Matthew Monroe Dayton Christian High School: Sarah Kovar, Andrew Miller, Steven Saponara, Adam Shaeffer Spring Valley Academy: Sarah Gray, Caleb Grizzell, Shastin Purvis, Chelsea Stevens Troy Christian High School: Gary Blacklidge West Carrollton Senior High School: Raquel Moran Xenia Christian High School: Nathaniel Anthony, David Cwiakala, Courtney Tobias Honor choir participants from the Dayton area are: Dayton Christian High School: Alexandra Clements, Anna Combs, Nathan Lane, Matt Mingus, Emily Mohler, Amedee Moore, Courtney Reid, Julian Sharp, Andy Stover, Quentin Whitaker Dominion Academy of Dayton: Amanda Roebuck Springfield (homeschooled): Matt Davis Troy Christian High School: Emily Sammons Xenia Christian High School: Lora Pacholka, Sean Scheerschmidt, Hilary Young Along with the honor concerts, the University`s music department will offer a musical extravaganza on Friday, Feb. 20 at 7 p.m. in the Dixon Ministry Center. This concert will feature many of the University`s vocal and instrumental ensembles, such as brass choir, concert chorale, harp ensemble, string quartet, jazz band, Jubilate, men`s glee club, orchestra, symphonic band, women`s choir, and jazz singers.
