Cedarville University Names New Dean

Cedarville, Ohio—Dr. Kevin Sims has been named dean of the School of Social Sciences and Professional Studies at Cedarville University. The Xenia resident will assume his new responsibilities July 1. As dean, he will oversee the departments of business administration, education, psychology, and social sciences and history. A Cedarville University graduate, Sims currently serves as associate professor of political science and director of summer school and continuing education. He has been a member of the University faculty since 1990. Sims earned his master`s degree at the University of Northern Iowa and his Ph.D. at The Claremont Graduate School. His previous experiences include six years as staff assistant to Congressman David Dreier in California and six years as chair of the department of history at Pillsbury Baptist Bible College in Minnesota. Dr. Duane Wood, Cedarville`s academic vice president, said, "An excellent classroom teacher, Dr. Sims has given effective leadership to expanding the number of programs offered by the summer school and continuing education office. Through his work, an increase of approximately 50 percent in student enrollments has occurred." Wood continued, "Dr. Sims has worked with virtually every department on campus in designing, marketing, and operating the summer sessions programs, some of which now function during the academic year as well. He has demonstrated interpersonal and managerial skills, emphasized service to students and faculty, and has shown a passion for academic administration which should enable the School of Social Sciences and Professional Studies to build on its current strengths." "I am excited about the opportunity to serve my School as dean," Sims said. "I look forward to meeting the challenges of our growing majors and helping our departments prepare young people to be fully equipped to influence the world for the cause of Christ." -30-
