Soprano and Pianist in Concert

Cedarville, Ohio—Soprano Beth Cram Porter and pianist Charles Clevenger will combine their talents in an evening of classical music on Monday, Feb. 21. The concert will begin at 7 p.m. in the Recital Hall of Cedarville University`s Dixon Ministry Center. Porter`s selections will include German songs by Schumann, Schubert`s "Der Hirt auf dem Felsen" (with clarinetist Dr. Bruce Curlette, associate professor of music), French melodies by Poulenc, and "Songs About Spring" by American composer Dominick Argento. Clevenger`s portion of the program will include several works by both Chopin and Rachmaninoff, including Chopin`s "Mazurka in b-flat minor" and Rachmaninoff`s "Prelude in B major." An accomplished soprano soloist, Porter has performed for President George W. Bush and boasts an extensive opera and musical theater repertoire. Porter serves as an assistant professor of vocal music at Cedarville University, where she teaches studio voice and directs the Cedarville University Women`s Choir. She holds degrees from Baylor University and Western Carolina University. Clevenger, a professor of music at Cedarville, maintains a large teaching studio and is an active concert pianist and contest adjudicator. He holds a doctorate in piano performance from the University of Cincinnati`s College-Conservatory of Music and has taught at Cedarville University since 1982.
