CU Faculty Member to Give Clarinet Performance

by Public Relations Office - Cedarville, OH

Cedarville, Ohio-Dr. Bruce Curlette will give a clarinet recital titled “Portraits of My Friends” on Tuesday, October 10 at 7 p.m. in the Recital Hall of Cedarville’s Dixon Ministry Center. Curlette will be accompanied by engineering major James Elgersma.

“The title ‘Portraits of My Friends’ comes from my desire to honor some of my colleagues in the department of music and art. As each colleague has his or her own distinct personality, I thought it would be a good starting point to develop a recital program in which each piece reflected the personality of one or more of my colleagues,” explained Curlette. “As you might imagine, this created quite an eclectic program that will hold the audience’s interest as well as reveal a little about each honored colleague.”

Curlette is a professor of music at Cedarville University. Previously a member of the Grand Rapids Symphony Orchestra, he has also served as solo clarinetist with The Mantovani Orchestra and associate principal clarinetist of the Pittsburgh Ballet Orchestra.

Curlette received his bachelor of science degree in education from Jacksonville State University in Alabama and his master of music in clarinet performance from the Eastman School of Music. He earned a doctor of musical arts degree in clarinet performance from The Ohio State University. Curlette has studied under D. Stanley Hasty and James M. Pyne.

The performance is free and open to the public. For more information, call 937-766-7728.
