CU Orchestra Conductor Selected for Russian Masterclass

Cedarville, Ohio- Jun Kim, assistant professor of music and conductor of the Cedarville University Orchestra, has been selected to participate in an international masterclass for orchestral conducting in St. Petersburg, Russia. While at the April 1-8 event, Kim will be working with Jorma Panula, a former conductor of the Helsinki Philharmonic who is now associated with the Royal College of Music of Stockholm and the St. Petersburg State Symphony Orchestra.

Last summer, Kim was selected as a masterclass conductor at the Oregon Bach Festival and worked closely with Maestro Helmuth Rilling and the Oregon Bach Festival Orchestra and Chorus. As a violinist, Kim has received performance awards at the Starling Competition, the CCM Concerto Competition, the Tuesday Musical Club Competition of Akron, and the Vancouver Youth Symphony Orchestra's Concerto Competition. He holds degrees from the Peabody Institute of Music and Indiana University as well as an artist diploma in violin performance from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music.

The Fairborn resident is completing his D.M.A. in violin performance with a conducting cognate at the University of Cincinnati. He joined the Cedarville University faculty in 2006.
