Guest Conductor Hosts Workshop

World-class conductor and composer Jim Curnow treated Cedarville music students and local band directors to a special conducting and composing workshop in April. While the prolific Christian composer was on campus, he also guest-conducted the spring symphonic band and brass choir concert, which featured pieces he composed.

In a dinner with composition majors, Jim discussed topics such as the compositional process, his publishing company, what one could do to become a better composer, and getting into graduate school.

Dr. Steven Winteregg, chair of the department of music and art, noted, “We do this with composers from time to time but what was great about Jim Curnow is that he is a Christian. He brought a Christian perspective to all of these topics. All the composition students commented that they learned a lot from the interaction.”
