Prof. to Judge International Piano Competition

Cedarville, Ohio-Dr. John Mortensen, associate professor of piano at Cedarville University, has been selected as one of four judges for the Rovere d’Oro International Piano Competition in San Bartolomeo, Italy. The competition will take place July 23 through 29.

Mortensen will join judges from Italy, Russia and Germany. Mortensen was personally invited to participate by Mikhail Petukhov, internationally acclaimed Russian pianist and chairman of the competition’s piano jury.

Dr. Steve Winteregg, chair of the department of music and art, noted, “This is an honor and it points out the international recognition that [Cedarville University is] achieving in music.”

A faculty member at Cedarville University since 1995, Mortensen is the head of keyboard studies and directs the piano ensemble. He is also an accomplished concert artist with a full concert schedule. He earned his B.M.A. from the University of Michigan in 1988 and his M.M. and D.M.A. from the University of Maryland in 1990 and 1994, respectively. Mortensen resides in Cedarville.
