Vision On Wheels Bikes Across America

by Public Relations Office - Cedarville, OH

Cedarville, Ohio-Jason Briggs and Derek Stambaugh may have just graduated from college, but that doesn't mean they plan to take a breather. The Cedarville University graduates are spending the summer biking across the nation to raise money for an impoverished African village. Their trip began May 17 in Point Conception, Calif.

The trip, called "Vision On Wheels," was born after Cedarville University and its Women of Vision (WOV) chapter  co-adopted the impoverished village of Fisheni in Zambia, Africa. Because Fisheni struggles with a high AIDS rate, low literacy among its residents, and a lack of clean drinking water, Cedarville and WOV pledged to raise money and awareness to help in these areas over the next 10 years.

Vision On Wheels gives Briggs and Stambaugh a chance to tell the Fisheni story nationwide while raising relief money through per-mile pledges and designated gifts. Their goal is to raise $100,000 for Fisheni relief.

Briggs, a mechanical engineering major, and Stambaugh, who majored in management, hope to cover 80 to 100 miles a day. They will bike through locales such as the Grand Canyon, Colorado Springs, St. Louis, and Philadelphia. The trip ends in Ocean City, N.J., in early July.

Follow the duo's progress.
