2008 National Debate and Speech Champions

Cedarville, Ohio—The Cedarville University Speech and Debate teams competed at the National Christian College Forensics tournament on March 7-9, 2008 and walked away with these exciting results:

The team also won the Quality Award which is given to the school who averages the most points per entry (Speech and Debate combined)

Individual National Champions
Debate Team:
Open Parlimentary Debate 2008 National Champions- Mark Miller and John Cooper

Junior Varsity Parlimentary Debate:
2008 national champions- Leanna Baumer and Stephanie Devine
2nd place (finalists)- Abigail Eustace and Ben Shorey
3rd place (semifinalists)- Katy Hawkins and Jordan Wood

Speech Team Individual Highlights:
Michael Domeny won five 2008 individual national championships:
1st place individual sweepstakes (best overall speaker )
1st place Prose Interpretation
1st place dramatic interpretation
1st place Faith Literature
1st place After Dinner Speaking

Karen Williams won two 2008 individual national championships:
1st Place Impromptu Speaking
1st Place Communication Analysis

Elizabeth Gingell
1st Place Novice Extemporaneous Speaking

Speech students also won numerous 2nd -7th place awards.
The teams are coached by Derrick Green (Speech) and Dr. Rebecca Sietman (Debate).

*During a seperate event at the National Debate Tournament sponsored by the National Parliamentary Debate Association (NPDA) the Debate team placed 8th. The NPDA is the largest intercollegiate debate association in the U.S. and includes both Christian and secular universities.
