for SB 115.  This bill would amend the Revised Code to require health insurers to provide coverage for dependent children until the age of thirty if the child meets specified conditions.  This bill has a large impact on the coverage of children that are in the foster system and has the potential to make a positive impact in the State of Ohio.

The bill is currently assigned to the House Insurance Committee and they met on Wednesday, February 6th at 3:30 pm.  LIndsay Stone, senior social work major, testified.

Let me know if you are interested in more information.  The following is a quote from an email re: her testimony...

I want to share with you how very proud I am of Lindsay for her excellent testimony as a proponent of SB 115 provided to the Senate Insurance Committee yesterday.  Not only did Lindsay rise to the occasion, she lit up the room with her eloquence and maturity.  I don’t know that the legislators in the committee (who, by the way, paid PERFECT attention to Lindsay – I’ve never seen that before in my life!) had any idea what hit them when she fearlessly addressed the bench.

After providing her testimony, Senator Steve Stivers thanked Lindsay for her personal commitment and the reminder of why our legislators “do what they do”.  Senator John Boccieri also took a minute to thank her for her testimony and addressed the room, reminding Lindsay that these very issues are why he went into the legislative field.  It is not often that the State Legislators have a “reality check” right there in the Committee Hearing itself.

What an amazing experience for someone with the heart and passion for her life’s work as Lindsay.  As she presented her thoughts, my heart swelled with pride for not only NASW, but Cedarville University, and the entire profession of Social Work.  My congratulations to the faculty at Cedarville University who have exceptionally fed and nourished Lindsay’s academic experience up to this point.  I can only imagine the great work that Lindsay will accomplish in the future as a professional.
