Cedarville, Ohio—Spring brings baseball to Dayton Dragons Fifth Third Field, and for the third year in a row, the Cedarville University Event Planning and Management class was granted the privilege of using the professional venue to host a game between Cedarville and Earlham College.
The attendance of 700 made the event the largest to date. The event also provided students with the opportunity to give back.
"We saw the game as a huge success," said sports management major Corbin Boucek. "We were blown away by the record attendance and enormous corporate donation."
Baseball fans contributed canned food items, and all of the evenings profits were donated to The Foodbank Dayton.
In addition to the evenings proceeds, students secured two tractor-trailer loads of food and necessities — a donation worth nearly $150,000 — from LeSea Global Feed the Hungry, based out of South Bend, Ind.
"The need in our community has continued to grow, said Linda Roepken, spokesperson for The Foodbank. The support of the students from Cedarville will most definitely help locally."
