Cedarville University invites individuals with financial responsibilities in nonprofit organizations and Christian ministries to attend a one-day financial seminar on March 15. Designed to provide an overview of recent legal, financial and accounting issues affecting nonprofit organizations, the seminar will cover the following issues:
·Proposed and emerging topics to watch and how they may affect nonprofit organizations
·Recent laws, regulations, cases and rulings, and other developments; and the impact on nonprofit organizations
·Observations and updates on the new Form 990
·Accounting and auditing standards — the coming international convergence
·Budgeting and policy issues for spending donor-restricted gifts
·Ideas for improving giving — even in difficult times
Michael Batts will serve as the seminar presenter. He is the founder and managing shareholder of Batts, Morrison, Wales & Lee, P.A., a CPA firm dedicated exclusively to serving nonprofit organizations and their affiliates.
Batts chairs the board of the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability (ECFA). He served on the Legal Framework Work Group of the Panel on the Nonprofit Sector, a legislative advisory panel convened at the request of the Chairman of the U.S. Senate Finance Committee. He is active legislatively, both on the state and federal levels, having successfully drafted and lobbied for a number of changes to laws affecting nonprofit organizations.
