In celebration of the life and work of Frédéric Chopin, the Cedarville University Orchestra, under the direction of Jun Kim, will perform the Chopin 200th Anniversary Concert on Friday, Nov. 5 at 8 p.m. Special guest, Yeol Eum Son, Silver Medalist of the 2009 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, will perform Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 2.
Though only 24, Son has performed with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra, the Israel and Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestras, the NHK Symphony and Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestras in Japan, and Germany’s Baden–Baden Symphony Orchestra. She has been invited regularly to participate in numerous international music festivals, including Germany’s Reingau Music Festival, Poland’s Beethoven Easter and Chopin Piano Festivals, Israel’s Arthur Rubinstein Festival, and the Bowdoin Music Festival in the United States. Her performance of the Brahms Piano Quintet with the Takács Quartet during the Cliburn’s Semifinal Round earned her the Steven De Groote Memorial Award for the Best Performance of Chamber Music.
Her complete competition performances are available for streaming at www.cliburn.tv.
The Orchestra will also perform Haydn’s Symphony No. 99 in G Major and Debussy’s Prelude to an Afternoon of a Faun.
