Cedarville University Welcomes Author Mike Yankoski

by Public Relations

Mike Yankoski, author of “Under the Overpass: A Journey of Faith on the Streets of America,” will speak during Cedarville University’s morning chapel service on October 27, 2011.

“Under the Overpass: A Journey of Faith on the Streets of America” is the story of Yankoski and Sam Purvis’ venture into the life of this country’s homeless population. Yankoski and Purvis take their readers on a journey through the eyes of America’s homeless. While attending college, Yankoski and Purvis were burdened with the idea of their secure lifestyles. Striving to understand the lives of those living on the streets, they set out on a five month journey to six different cities in the United States. Their intentions going into this experience were to better understand the regime of the homeless population and their interaction with the Christian church.

Yankoski shares his experience with audiences across the United States and Canada in hope that his story will motivate and encourage Christians today to live out their faith in full force. His focus is on a Christ-centered response to global issues, specifically homelessness.

Yankoski is a traveling speaker, photographer and author of “My 30 Days Under the Overpass: Not Your Ordinary Devotional” and executive editor of “Zealous Love: A Practical Guide to Social Justice.”  He serves on the board of directors for World Vision U.S. and the board of advisers for Kilns College.  Presently, he is completing his master's in Christian studies at Regent College alongside his wife Danae. They both currently reside in Vancouver, B.C.

The morning service will start at 10 a.m. on Thursday, October 27, 2011 featuring Yankoski as the keynote speaker. This will be held in the Jeremiah Chapel of the Dixon Ministry Center at Cedarville University. A question and answer session will be held at 2 p.m.in room 104 of The Center for Biblical and Theological Studies. These events are free and open to the public.
