The Cedarville University Department of Art, Design and Theatre is currently showcasing artwork by senior graphic design majors Ryan Belton, Ben Chasnov and Eric Thompson on the upper floor of the Stevens Student Center.
The display allows the students to showcase some of their best work and also educate other students about the graphic design major. Some of these pieces include items from their portfolios, photography, freelance work and projects from internships.
“Most of my artwork is created for specific clients, and although the majority of the work is not meant to serve as decoration in the form most people consider art to function, each piece serves its own unique purpose,” says Chasnov.
Belton said, “I’m just excited to get my best work out there for people to see.”
Displaying their artwork also allows the students to see how others interact with their work. The way the artwork is displayed can create a different experience for individuals who stop to look.
There are several more exhibits planned for this academic year including a showcase of the innovative and industrial design majors' projects.
Students graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in graphic design are taught to be visual communicators. It is possible for students to find a career in design for advertising, exhibitions, publications, corporate identity and webpages. Combining this major with a minor such as marketing, professional writing or business management can expand their potential career opportunities.
According to Chasnov, Cedarville University “provides those pursuing a career in the [graphic design] industry with a unique opportunity beyond that of a traditional design or art college.”
