Cedarville University announced today the appointment of alumnus John E. Hart as the first in-house General Counsel, beginning May 2012.
Hart comes to Cedarville University after 26 years with the University of Dayton (UD). He served as UD’s Director of Legal Affairs and University Counsel. In this role, Hart advised administration, faculty and staff on legal issues and liability avoidance.
In his new role, Hart will oversee legal compliance, provide sound counsel and facilitate best practices for the long term success of Cedarville University. He will be responsible for collaborating across divisions and departments to develop cooperative approaches to goal setting and strategic plans. Hart is also tasked with guiding the University’s operations within appropriate governance while identifying and managing legal risks.

At UD, Hart served as an adviser to student organizations, taught classes at all levels, provided faculty and staff training and worked on a number of University committees.
Hart has also served on the board of directors of the National Association of College and University Attorneys, and recently has been reappointed to the Legal Services Review Panel of the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities. He also serves on the board of Legacy Ministries International, the local oversight organization for the Dayton Christian School System.
