March 23 marks the date for the annual Masterworks concert at Cedarville University. The Masterworks concert was founded in 2007 by the current dean of Cedarville University’s college of Arts and Sciences, Steve Winteregg, D.M.A.

Bruce Curlette, professor of instrumental music says, “the Masterworks concert is a time where the department of music's students and faculty have the chance to present a musical offering including some of the greatest works ever written.” The money that is made from ticket sales is used for scholarships to aid students in financial need.

The 130-voice Masterworks Chorus and the Masterworks Orchestra will be under the direction of maestro Peter Stafford Wilson. Several of Cedarville’s faculty will also be featured in the concert: Charles Pagnard, trumpet, Bruce Curlette, clarinet and Jun Kim, violin. The concert will spotlight music composed by Giuseppe Tartini, Beethoven and Carl Maria von Weber. The choir, orchestra and vocalists will come together at the end of the concert to perform the Mozart Requiem.

Wilson is the associate conductor of the Columbus Symphony Orchestra and the music director of the Columbus Symphony Youth Orchestra, Springfield Symphony Orchestra and the Westerville Symphony. He graduated from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. He has led the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and appeared on the American Symphony Orchestra League’s Conductor Preview, where he was chosen from 60 nominees to showcase his talent.

The concert will take place on March 23 at 7 p.m. in the Jeremiah Chapel of the Dixon Ministry Center. The event is open to the public. General admission is $10, and students and seniors are $5. Children 12 and under are free.
