Cedarville University’s School of Pharmacy is hosting the Good Manufacturing Practices Seminar Nov. 6-8, 2012.
The event is open to students studying science disciplines including pharmacy, chemistry, microbiology and engineering and is also open to those interested in careers in the health sciences industry or those already in the medical profession.
Frank Manella, founder and CEO of JR Pharma, LLC, will speak at the event. Manella has over 40 years of hands-on experience in the United States, European and Asia-Pacific pharmaceutical, biotech, in vitro diagnostic, medical device, nutraceutical and cosmetic industries. He also serves as adjunct instructor at the University of Kentucky’s College of Pharmacy and College of Business and has served on Cedarville University’s School of Pharmacy advisory council since 2006.
David Ormsbee, assistant dean of admission and advancement for the school of pharmacy, said that the course will review best practices to prepare individuals to work in the industry.
“The course will also allow us to use our facilities and expertise to encourage individuals to pursue careers in the pharmaceutical industry,” Ormsbee said.
Attendees will learn about job functions, drug safety, FDA operations and interactions with pharmaceutical industry, testing requirements for drugs, and education requirements for various pharmaceutical-related jobs.
This course will allow individuals to experience what is expected of professionals in the U.S. pharmaceutical industry. It condenses into three days what a new employee would typically experience during an extended orientation program.
As part of registration, guests will receive a training seminar syllabus, a glossary of pharmaceutical terms and a copy of United States Code, Chapter 21 of the Code of Federal Regulations, Parts 210 and 211 (21 CFR 211) or “The Good Manufacturing Practices.”
