OneVoice to Perform at National Immigration Reform Event

Cedarville University’s OneVoice Gospel Choir will travel to Washington, D.C., to lead worship at the Evangelical Day of Prayer and Action for Immigration Reform hosted by the Evangelical Immigration Table on April 17.

The one-day event will feature speeches from national leaders on immigration reform, including the Rev. Samuel Rodriguez of the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference, Bill Hybels of Willow Creek Community Church and Stephen Bauman of World Relief. Event participants will be encouraged to spend the afternoon meeting with legislators to discuss the need for immigration reform.

Sandra Van Opstal, a second-generation Latina and former director for InterVarsity Christian Fellowship’s Chicago Urban Program, will conclude the day with worship at the Church of the Reformation. OneVoice members will be joining Van Opstal for the final service.

OneVoice is a passionate and expressive ministry for Cedarville students that uses a variety of musical styles to celebrate the diversity at Cedarville and within the church. Over 50 OneVoice students will participate in the Evangelical Day of Prayer and Action for Immigration Reform.

Justin Spann, director of multicultural enrollment and OneVoice, looks forward to representing the University and hopes to see students who may be somewhat apathetic toward the issue of immigration return informed and inspired.
“The body of Christ is larger than the American church and it’s our responsibility to reach out,” Spann said. “This event gives students the chance to engage the political arena, and we hope for more opportunities like this in the future.”
