Career Fair Brings Networking Opportunities to Campus

by Laura Hinckley, Public Relations Writer

On Wednesday, Oct. 9, more than 50 companies will attend the fall career fair in the Stevens Student Center at Cedarville University. While the career fair is specifically designed for Cedarville students and alumni, the event is also open to the community.

The career services office hosts multiple career fairs each year, and for the first time ever, the event organizers were forced to close company registration due to limited space. With 52 companies represented, registration is at a maximum for the annual fall career fair.

The career fair offers a significant opportunity for students, alumni and community members to develop networking skills, make professional contacts and potentially find jobs and internships with top employers from across the country.

Some of headlining employers include Honda, Procter & Gamble, the FBI, Cummins, Reynolds and Reynolds, Ohio State Highway Patrol, Wright Patterson Air Force Base and the Ohio Attorney General’s office. Companies recognize that Cedarville students receive a superior education and are eager to offer them internships and full-time positions. Some students have even been connected to companies that are not actually present by networking with representatives at career fairs.

Jeff Reep, director of career services, encourages students from all academic departments to attend the fair even if they think some of the employers aren’t the best fit for their degree. “I would really encourage students to pay attention to companies they aren’t necessarily interested in because they don’t seem to relate to their major,” said Reep. “Companies need people will all sorts of skills.”

In addition to hosting career fairs, the career services staff offers workshops for students on a variety of topics, including interviewing, building a resume and professionalism.
