Following its on-campus visit Sept. 25-27, the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) Renewal Approval team submitted its finalized report granting program approvals. ACSI is one of the largest accrediting organizations for Christian schools and institutes of higher education.
Upon receiving program approval, all graduates of the teacher education program at Cedarville, both undergraduate and graduate, will be licensed and able to teach in any ACSI-accredited school after graduation. Christian schools, whether ACSI-accredited or not, may require their teachers to take classes from a master’s program to become ACSI-certified.
Cedarville has been an ACSI-approved higher education program for automatic teacher certification since 1996. On the most recent visit, the approval team came to gain on-site verification of the progress documented by annual reports, discuss new issues that have arisen since the last visit in 2003 and re-establish the areas in which Cedarville graduates are degreed.
In addition to its three majors, early childhood education, middle childhood education and special education, the school of education also grants licensures for 16 different majors spread across seven different academic departments in the teacher education program. The approval team commended the recent transition from department to school and the improvement of interdepartmental communication, specifically within these 16 programs.
The approval team recognized the faculty’s “love, commitment and investment in the lives of student in the school of education.” They also commended the faculty for facilitating opportunities for students to teach worldwide and to gain field experiences, thus expanding the reach of Cedarville’s influence and preparing students for success in schools.
