Rethink Creative Uses Art to Support Orphans

Rethink Creative, a small business run by a community of artists, launched an online art fundraiser called Art for Orphans as an innovative way to support orphans in Zambia.

Rethink Creative is a creative consulting group that partners primarily with a variety of ministry and nonprofit organizations. Cedarville graduate admissions counselor Adam Brandt works with Rethink as one of its artists. Summarizing the mission of the organization, Brandt shared, “Rethink’s goal is to communicate the gospel in creative, innovative ways, catering toward churches, ministries and nonprofit organizations.”

Recently, Rethink partnered with Family Legacy, an organization seeking to provide physical, spiritual and emotional care for orphans in Zambia. Several members of Rethink Creative know one of Family Legacy’s workers, Katy Gibson, and they wanted to help support her work with orphans in Zambia.

Zambia has the highest per capita rate of orphans in the world; one out of every six children is an orphan. Family Legacy’s vision is to transform Zambia one child at a time by sharing the story of the gospel, rescuing orphans and connecting Americans with vulnerable Zambian children.

Passionate about Gibson’s life-changing work with Zambian children, Brandt began brainstorming ways to support Gibson. He had the initial idea of using art, specifically photography, as a fundraising mechanism. “I wanted to use my art for a good cause,” said Brandt.

Rethink worked with Brandt’s idea and decided to create an online art sale to raise money for Gibson. As the art sale became concrete, several artists contributed their work, including Brandt, another Rethink photographer, four Cedarville graduates and one current Cedarville student.

Rethink officially launched the online art sale, Art for Orphans, on February 11, 2014. Prints can be bought for a flat rate of $10 or downloaded for $1 as an iPhone or desktop background. Rethink’s goal is to raise $10,000 dollars by the end of the year.

The money from the sale of each print goes to supporting Family Legacy and Gibson’s work in Zambia, except for a small amount needed to ship the prints.

According to Brandt, “Rethink’s goal with Art for Orphans is to connect people to art for a good cause and to support Family Legacy’s work with orphans in Zambia.”
