Trustees Approve Townhouse Construction

The Cedarville University Board of Trustees recently approved the construction of a new campus townhouse residence hall for the 2014 academic year.

A dramatic growth in graduate students and the positive reception of the first townhouses completed in July 2013 prompted the board to approve this initiative. The new townhouses will be located north of the current townhomes and south of the athletic fields.

Jon Wood, vice president of student life and Christian ministries, said the board’s approval of the townhomes coincides with the University’s ambition to grow. “It is the administration’s desire to provide the best resources possible to support student development at Cedarville, and the townhouses are a strategic part of accomplishing this goal,” Wood said.

The second townhome unit will be a replica of the current homes, able to house 48 students in eight units. Each unit of six students will share three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a full kitchen, washer and dryer and a furnished living room. The townhouse unit will also have wireless access and be wired for DirectTV.

Wood said this second townhouse unit will be intended for graduate students and upperclassmen. Cedarville’s goal is to provide a unique living opportunity for upperclassmen beginning their transition from traditional student residence life to the professional world. “The second townhouse unit provides the opportunity for our student body to continue to expand,” Wood said, “while also providing a different living experience for upperclassmen.”

Site work will begin in mid-November and construction will continue into spring 2014. The anticipated completion date of the new townhouses is Aug.1, 2014.
