Alumni Kick Start The Mister To Save Energy

by Amy Radwanski, Public Relations Writer

Two Cedarville University alumni launched an environmentally and economically friendly home product, The Mister.  The launch on Kickstarter, the world’s largest funding platform for creative projects, on Nov. 12, 2014, reached its funding goal in less than 24 hours.

Engineering graduates Joshua Teekell ’07 and Andrew Parks ’07 who were working for Cameron Oil & Gas at the time, partnered with The Mister’s inventor, Bill Nachefski, and the three went into business together.

The Mister attaches to a traditional air conditioner and cools down the unit to keep up on hot days, reducing energy costs.  It easily monitors the unit through a mobile app and features strong UV resistant materials and water filtration to prevent corrosion. Unlike other environmentally friendly products, The Mister saves the consumer money at a low upfront cost of $280 after a 30 percent green tax credit.

Parks said, “It’s a huge win-win for both our customer and the environment, and that is rare.”

With over 1,400 beta units already tested and sold, The Mister is available for preorder with a 30 percent off green tax credit through Kickstarter and is available for purchase on amazon.com. More information about The Mister can be found at themister.com.

After graduating from Cedarville, Parks attended business school at Ohio State. He credits the successful business partnership with fellow grad Teekell to his engineering education at Cedarville.

In the next few months, Parks said he and Teekell will be launching a web platform for another potential business, so “stay tuned.”
