New Student Planning Program to Benefit Students

Student Planning, a software program designed to aid students in class registration and class scheduling, is now available to Cedarville University students.

Cedarville University’s Information Technology and Office of the Registrar collaborated to create this application, which merges technology and course scheduling and helps students plan their courses over their four-year college careers. The program will help students stay on course with their academic choices and may improve graduation rates since students will know when a course will be offered during their four-year education.

Earlier this year, both offices piloted and tested this program with a group of faculty and allied health and social work students. The results were overwhelmingly positive as the students successfully registered for spring semester 2015 classes. The program interfaces directly with the university’s degree audit system and checks a student’s progress toward graduation. During freshman year, students will be able to create a four-year degree-completion plan, as the software serves as a platform for students to register for classes included in their academic program.

Students will benefit from easier class registration for terms and the discontinuance of class codes. Student advisers will be able to provide students with planning assistance and can also make changes to a plan to address the specific student. Students will also be able to view their unofficial transcripts, the university catalog, their GPA and fulfilled admissions requirements.

The program is available to both graduate and undergraduate university students, and multiple training sessions will be available on Wednesday, March 11.

“The Student Planning system will change the way students work with advisers, register for courses and visually enact a four-year plan, making it easier to graduate on time,” says Scott Howder, Cedarville’s assistant chief information officer.
