One Bistro Opens Food Truck in Xenia

by Kathryn Sill, Public Relations Writer

Two Cedarville University professors are encouraging residents from the Miami Valley to get involved in a cause that serves the hungry and homeless in Xenia and Germantown, Ohio. And, it also offers a bible study each morning for anyone who wants to attend.

Currently Phillip Thornton, Ph.D., vice chair of Pharmacy Practice and associate professor of pharmacy practice, and Melody Hartzler, Pharm. D., assistant professor of pharmacy practice, help One Bistro with its food truck ministry.

One Bistro is a community café that began in Miamisburg, Ohio, with the mission of providing affordable meals. Meals range from $6-9, but with One Bistro offers creative payment options. People who eat at One Bistro can pay only what it can afford; pay the full amount or give extra to “pay it forward” to help feed someone else, or pay through service. Paying through service can include anything from wrapping silverware to washing dishes.

One Bistro operates food trucks in Germantown and Xenia, Ohio. The Xenia food truck is located at 81 E Main St. One Bistro can be reached at 937-859-1165 for more information.

“One Bistro gets a lot of people that support them now, but it they needs volunteers to help direct people through the line at the food truck, and this can also be an opportunity to share the Gospel with the people in the line,” Thornton said.

“This allows us to really have a heart for serving others,” Thornton said. “You don’t serve when it’s convenient. You serve the people in front of you, so we are trying to develop that heart and mind in students.”
