Student to Intern with NBA's Charlotte Hornets

by Victoria Stearns, Public Relations Writer

Cedarville University’s Shannon Arbogast is living her dream of working in a professional sports environment. The senior began an internship this month with the Charlotte Hornets of the NBA. Arbogast’s internship in the corporate partnership services department concludes April 24.

Arbogast gained the internship through a connection who works in ticket sales for the Hornets.  Arbogast, who moved to Charlotte for the semester, previously worked with the Dayton Dragons in 2014, the Single A affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds.
While working with the Hornets, Arbogast will assist with special events and hospitality programs, game-day operations, develop promotional ideas and research advertising items relevant to the industry.
"Cedarville has prepared me to think critically and creatively through my sport management and public relations courses. Not only has this Christ-centered university allowed me to grow my personal skills and enhance my talents, but it has also helped to grow my professional skills to better my future in the professional sport industry,” Arbogast says.

On campus, Arbogast is heavily involved in event planning and marketing with her position as Student Government Events Director and works diligently to make campus events lively and dynamic. She accredits much of her success to Cedarville’s sports management and public relations programs.

With Arbogast’s experiences with the Dragons, and now with the Hornets, she is confident she will begin her career in sports administration soon after graduating in May. Cedarville University’s career placement rate is 94.7 percent, which surpasses the national average at 85 percent, according to the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE).

Located in southwest Ohio, Cedarville University is an accredited, Christ-centered, Baptist institution with an enrollment of 3,620 undergraduate, graduate and online students in more than 100 areas of study.
