Brittany Ferguson Earns Young Leader Scholarship

by Ryan Bower, Assistant Director of Public Relations

Cedarville University and the Fundamental Baptist Fellowship Association (FBFA) have named Brittany Ferguson as the recipient of this year’s James D. Parker Sr. Young Leader Scholarship.

Ferguson, an incoming freshman from Syracuse, New York, is the second student to receive the scholarship since its inception in 2015 and plans to study linguistics at Cedarville.

"I am absolutely honored to receive the Rev. James D. Parker Sr. Young Leader Award,” said Ferguson. “I give all the glory to God and I praise Him for His all-sufficient grace and mercy.”

The scholarship is named after James D. Parker Sr., Cedarville’s first African-American student. Parker came to Cedarville in 1954 and earned a degree in history before embarking on a decades-long career in ministry.

Parker currently serves as an instructor at the Central Baptist Institute in Syracuse, an outreach of Central Baptist Church, where Ferguson attends.

The Young Leader Scholarship is a full tuition award that is renewable for up to eight semesters so long as the student remains in good academic standing. In order to qualify for the scholarship, a student must regularly attend an FBFA church, and author an essay on their extra-curricular activities and involvement in their local church.

“Receiving this scholarship means that I will be able to learn more about God's plan for my life,” said Ferguson. “I look forward to the opportunity to attend Cedarville University and continue to be encouraged to grow in my walk with God and in my relationship with others."

Located in southwest Ohio, Cedarville University is an accredited, Christ-centered, Baptist institution with an enrollment of 3,711 undergraduate, graduate and online students in more than 100 areas of study.
