Center for Bioethics Improves Podcast Experience

by Kathryn Sill, Public Relations Writer

The Center for Bioethics at Cedarville University has recently made improvements to its podcast, “Bioethikos,” by purchasing cutting-edge equipment and increasing the number of podcasts available.

“Bioethikos is a podcast production with a perspective informed by Scripture, philosophy and common sense,” said Dennis Sullivan, M.D., director of the Center for Bioethics. “One could say that bioethics is life ethics: decisions at beginning of life, during our life and at the end of our life.”

With the purchase of new broadcast equipment, Sullivan is now able to produce podcasts directly from his office. The new technology not only increases sound quality, but also allows for interviews to be recorded in person or over the phone.

“The purpose of the podcast is to engage the public on bioethical issues from a Christian perspective,” Sullivan said. “Our goal is to inform the public, church and the academy to affirm conservative values.”

Previous podcasts have discussed topics such as abortion, physician assisted suicide and mental health, among many others. Sullivan’s goal is to produce one new podcast a month, and he plans to interview faculty from various departments as well as experts from outside the University.

In addition to Sullivan, two other members of the Cedarville family are essential in the production of Bioethikos. Heather Kuruvilla, Ph.D., professor of biology, helps edit and provide additional podcast content, while also serving as the center’s associate director. Mark Mazelin, director of web developments, assists with network support on Cedarville’s website.

The Center for Bioethics also produces a web-based journal, “Bioethics in Faith and Practice.” To subscribe to both the journal and podcast, visit cedarville.edu/bioethics.
