FBFA Youth Conference Comes to Campus

by Ryan Bower, Assistant Director of Public Relations

Cedarville University will host the Fundamental Baptist Fellowship Association’s (FBFA) annual youth conference July 21-23. This year marks the first time Cedarville will host the annual event.

The FBFA Youth Conference takes place during the same time as the FBFA Annual Conference, which will be held in Indianapolis, Indiana. This year’s youth conference will focus on engaging students from FBFA-member churches to help build community in their respective locations.

A visit to the new Ark Encounter in Williamstown, Kentucky, will be a highlight of the conference. This life-size replica of Noah’s Ark is a new exhibit from Answers in Genesis, which also operates the Creation Museum in Petersburg, Kentucky.

“We’re really looking forward to having the FBFA youth at Cedarville and giving them a unique and powerful fellowship opportunity,” said Greg Dyson, director of intercultural leadership at Cedarville. “The experience will also expose them to the many educational opportunities that Cedarville offers, and we’ll get to show them some great places in Ohio.”

On the final day of the youth conference, students will tour the National Afro-American Museum and Cultural Center in nearby Wilberforce, Ohio. The group will also tour the campuses of Central State University and Wilberforce University, two of the oldest historically black colleges and universities in the United States.

The FBFA is an association of 29 independent fundamentalist African-American Baptist churches in 13 states and the African nation of Ghana. The FBFA partners with Cedarville to offer the Rev. James D. Parker Sr. Young Leader Scholarship Award.

The award is a full-tuition scholarship given annually to a student who regularly attends an FBFA-affiliated church and shows leadership qualities within his or her community. The scholarship is named in honor of James D. Parker Sr., the first African-American to enroll at Cedarville.

“As a community, Cedarville University has always been supportive of young people developing into leaders and growing in their love for Jesus Christ,” said Dyson. “We believe that one of the best ways to do that is by exposing young people to Christian higher education, and the FBFA youth conference gives us the opportunity to do just that.”

Located in southwest Ohio, Cedarville University is an accredited, Christ-centered, Baptist institution with an enrollment of 3,711 undergraduate, graduate and online students in more than 100 areas of study. Founded in 1887, Cedarville is recognized nationally for its authentic Christian community, rigorous academic programs, strong graduation and retention rates, accredited professional and health science offerings and leading student satisfaction ratings.
