Faculty and Staff Outpace Nation on Giving Tuesday

by Ryan Bower, Assistant Director of Public Relations

While the days following Thanksgiving are often filled with mass consumerism as people join the rush of “Black Friday” and “Cyber Monday,” faculty and staff at Cedarville University paused on Tuesday, Dec. 1, to participate in “Giving Tuesday.”

Between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., faculty and staff donated $34,367, far surpassing last year’s total of $25,156. Donations will go toward a variety of funds including scholarships, athletics and the campaign to renovate the Jeremiah Chapel.

Approximately 65 percent of Cedarville’s faculty and staff made a contribution on “Giving Tuesday,” more than doubling the national faculty/staff average of 25 percent.

"Cedarville is blessed to have faculty and staff who not only invest in our students with their time and energy, but also with their financial resources,” said Stephanie Carroll, director of alumni relations and annual giving. “Giving Tuesday reflects that we have faculty and staff who believe in Cedarville's mission and want to see Cedarville continue to be a University that excels in everything we do for the Word of God and the Testimony of Jesus Christ."

A nationwide initiative, “Giving Tuesday” began in 2012 as a way for people to give back during the holiday season. It is estimated that the event has resulted in hundreds of millions of dollars in charitable donations since its inception.
