MasterWorks Festival Moves to Cedarville

by Victoria Stearns, Public Relations Writer

The internationally acclaimed MasterWorks Festival will now be held at Cedarville University starting next summer. The agreement between the two parties was reached in late October, and next summer will mark the festival’s 20th anniversary.

The MasterWorks Festival is an intensive, four-week festival for advanced students with a passion for the classical performing arts. World-class faculty and gifted students present brilliant performances in an atmosphere of dynamic Christian faith. The festival will run from June 19-July 17. During the festival, students will learn and perform in University facilities. Each concert or event is free of charge and open to the public.

“We are very pleased to announce this partnership,” said Patrick Kavanaugh, D.M.A., artistic director of MasterWorks. “Cedarville University has a wonderful tradition of standing firm for the Gospel, and we feel a great kinship with their beliefs that reflect its motto of For the Word of God and the Testimony of Jesus Christ. Cedarville University is the perfect fit for MasterWorks.”

The festival originated at Houghton College in New York and has been held at Grace College in Indiana for the last 14 years. MasterWorks will offer programs for students in orchestra/chamber music, piano, string intensive study, wind intensive study, vocal intensive study, choral, tech, theater and film acting.

Students will learn from professional musicians and theatrical leaders during the week and then each weekend will perform two orchestra concerts, a faculty recital and a number of student recitals for the public.

“Our music and worship department is thrilled to partner with the Masterworks Festival,” said Sandra Yang, Ph.D., associate professor of music history. “The level of expertise that MasterWorks brings to campus, along with a shared commitment to our missional values and doctrinal beliefs, fills us with gratitude to God and belief that everyone will benefit from this partnership.”
