School of Pharmacy Announces Endowment Fund

by Kathryn Sill, Public Relations Writer

The Cedarville University School of Pharmacy will launch a scholarship endowment fund to create additional financial aid for students in the professional program. The initial goal is to build the endowment fund to $3 million that will provide $150,000 in scholarships during each academic year.

“Because the professional pharmacy program is four years in length, it can result in financial burden to our students,” said Marc Sweeney, Pharm.D., dean of the school of pharmacy. “The establishment of a scholarship endowment will allow us to better support our students financially.”

Many students will enter postgraduate training after completing the professional program, which can sometimes add to the debt burden. Sweeney said that a scholarship endowment can help students graduate with less financial stress.

“Our primary goal is to get our doctorate students through the program with the least amount of debt as possible,” said Sweeney. “The more that we can provide in terms of financial aid, the better off our graduates will be as they enter the workforce.”

Scholarships from the endowment will be awarded based on academic performance, financial need, leadership and service. Students must go through an application and screening process before being selected.

“We have a lot of organizations, companies and individuals in leadership that have an interest in contributing to our students’ success,” said Sweeney.  “We plan to capitalize on that interest by encouraging them to contribute to the endowment fund.”
