Academic Enrichment Center Expands Online Support

by Michaela Carpenter, Public Relations Writer

As Cedarville University’s Dual Enrollment program has grown, “The Cove,” the University’s academic enrichment center, has expanded its support to the growing number of online students. While the same programs offered to on-campus students have always been available to online students, a new website and a Cove intern now work to support these students in new ways.

“I love working at The Cove and meeting students’ needs,” said Bekah Brewer, the online student support intern at The Cove. “My current job is to assess the needs of the online students and figure out what can best fit those needs. I love helping to build that online community and communicating all that The Cove can do to help students succeed.”

The Cove, along with Paula Kordic, Cedarville’s College Now program coordinator, has created a set of videos to aid online students in their transition to college life. These videos are located on the new website that was launched this spring. The new website brings all of The Cove’s services to one location, providing easy access for online students.

With Cedarville’s Dual Enrollment increasing by 26 percent since spring 2016, and these students often becoming full-time Yellow Jackets, the need to ramp up academic support was clear.

"The flip side of the flexibility of online learning can be feeling isolated from campus resources when the going gets tough," Kordic said. "The Cove is a wonderful hub of learning tools that are now being funneled specifically to online students through their new website."

"Our goal is to make this information more accessible, ultimately driving more students to the resources at The Cove for the help they need."
