Dr. White Co-Edits Religious Liberty Book

by Madi Cannon, Public Relations Writer

Cedarville University President Thomas White served as co-editor of the second edition of “First Freedom.” The book was released October 15.

White edited the newly revised edition, "First Freedom: The Beginning and End of Religious Liberty," with Jason G. Duesing, provost and associate professor of historical theology at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and Malcom B. Yarnell III, professor of systematic theology, director of the Center for Theological Research and director of the Oxford Study Program at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.

The work seeks to equip pastors, churches and college professors to defend religious freedom, and leading evangelical scholars including Albert Mohler, Russell Moore and Paige Patterson contributed to the book.
According to White, the book addresses biblical and historical foundations of religious freedom, including topics on religious freedom and the exclusivity of the Gospel, the Christian doctrine of religious liberty and religious liberty and the public square.

“I believe religious liberty is one of the most important issues of our day,” said White. “Many before us have given their lives so that we may enjoy the freedoms we have today, and we must not take those for granted.”

White’s belief in the importance of religious freedom has a measureable influence on the culture at Cedarville University. “We will clearly articulate the foundation for religious liberty so that the Gospel may go forth in an open marketplace of ideas as we stand for the Word of God and the Testimony of Jesus Christ,” he added.
