Fall Career Fair Brings Fortune 500 Companies

by Stephen J. Port, Assistant Director of Public Relations

Cedarville University will host the largest career fair in Greene County when nearly 100 companies send representatives to the annual Fall Career Fair on Oct. 5 from 11 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. in the Doden Field House. The event is open to the public, including students from area universities.

A number of Fortune 500 organizations, including Procter and Gamble, General Electric, The Boeing Company, Honda and Walgreens are scheduled to attend. Well-known local companies including Reynolds and Reynolds, LexisNexis and Speedway plan to send representatives, and participants will also have the opportunity to interact with several graduate schools.
“This is definitely an opportunity for students of all levels of experience to sharpen their professional networking and interviewing skills, which will better position them to gain internship experience and full-time job offers in the future,” said Jeff Reep, director of career services.

Reep also stressed that the fair will provide opportunities for students from varying fields of study. Health care, sales, engineering, retail and data and communications industries will all be represented, as well as mission and government agencies — including the FBI.

Companies often use Cedarville’s Fall Career Fair to fulfill a large portion of their hiring and internship needs. Cummins Inc., a Fortune 500 company based in Columbus, Indiana, will send a contingent of recruiters. They spend the entire day conducting interviews and offer positions to a sizeable portion of each graduating class of engineering students.

“It’s exciting to see the interest that these organizations, companies and graduate schools have in our students,” Reep said. “It’s a real testament to the quality of the students that attend Cedarville.”

Allie Hutchison, assistant director of career services and career fair coordinator, pointed to that quality as a reason well-known organizations continue to return to the fair.

“I repeatedly hear that our students are top notch,” Hutchison said. “They are quality individuals, their work ethic stands out and they’re often doing what these organizations consider master’s- or Ph.D.-level work.”
