Graduate Reading Endorsement Program Ranked

The rising cost of a college education is one of the most talked-about issues when prospective students pursue higher education. Students are seeking a college that best balances academic fit and sustainable affordability.

According to Affordable Schools, Cedarville University’s online reading endorsement program is ranked No. 17 among the most affordable programs in the United States. This online graduate program, which consists of four courses along with field experiences at the primary, middle and secondary levels, is a 16-hour program that can be completed in one year.

Dr. Ruth Sylvester, assistant dean of the school of education and associate professor of education, said that the program was developed to make teachers more qualified to teach reading. In Ohio, such qualification requires a reading endorsement.

“A bachelor’s degree in education is enough to adequately teach the average reader, but in almost every classroom there are students who find reading a challenge,” Sylvester said. “A reading endorsement equips teachers to help those students.”

Located in southwest Ohio, Cedarville University is an accredited, Christ-centered, Baptist institution with an enrollment of 3,760 undergraduate, graduate, and online students in more than 100 areas of study. Founded in 1887, Cedarville is recognized nationally for its authentic Christian community, rigorous academic programs, strong graduation and retention rates, accredited professional and health science offerings, and leading student satisfaction ratings.
