In an effort to provide its high-quality education to a growing number of professionals seeking post-graduate education, Cedarville University has spent the last two years streamlining and increasing the number of graduate programs it offers.
As a result, the largest evangelical university in Ohio has experienced an almost 40 percent increase in students – from 48 in 2015 to 67 in 2016 – as well as a substantial increase in revenue.
Cedarville offered its first graduate program a little more than 10 years ago with the introduction of its M.Ed. degree, and now offers 10 programs in health care, Bible and ministry, education and business.
Jim Amstutz, director of graduate enrollment and event services, said that all graduate programs are progressing well, pointing specifically to the Master of Science in Nursing program, which has seen steady growth and offers three tracks: global public health nursing, nurse educator and family nurse practitioner. Cedarville also offers a Graduate Certificate in Global Public Health Nursing.
Dr. Angelia Mickle, dean of the school of nursing, highlighted a few improvements to the program, including converting all curricula to a fully online format and reducing the total number of program credit hours due to curricular changes.
Cedarville’s newest grad program, its Master of Divinity degree, can be completed in a traditional three- or four-year format or alongside an undergraduate program in a unique and cost-saving five-year plan. Cedarville plans to continue its on-campus Master of Ministry program, and has added a new fully online option.
“Our programs are preparing students to be competent servants in vocational ministry. To serve and lead well in church ministry, ministers need to have deep theological knowledge and skills for meeting the needs of the people around them,” said Dr. Jason Lee, dean of the school of biblical and theological studies.
Cedarville’s fully-online Master of Business Administration and Master of Education programs continue to operate successfully. Dr. Jeffrey Haymond, dean of the school of business administration, said the M.B.A. is constantly being tweaked to integrate feedback from students.
The school of pharmacy, which received full accreditation from the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education this past June, offers both a direct-entry Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) and a joint Pharm.D./MBA program. The dual-degree program is intended to give students business perspectives and skills for management opportunities within the health care industry.
Dr. Douglas Anderson, chair and associate professor of pharmacy practice, said that the school of pharmacy is “focusing on entrepreneurship and recognizing unique opportunities for advancement of the profession and practice.”
