Collaboration and Networking Highlight Edcamp Event

Cedarville University’s School of Education will host its fifth annual Edcamp, a free one-day professional development opportunity for educators, on Saturday, Oct. 22, 2016.

Edcamp is a valuable venue for educators to connect and collaborate. Using an innovative “unconference” format, participants serve as both the expert and the learner by choosing topics they are interested in and facilitating conversations about education practices. This allows educators to share their knowledge and experience, and it maximizes their time and what they are able to learn.

“Edcamp is a great resource for teachers to continue their professional learning in specific areas of interest,” said Jeremy Ervin, Ph.D., dean and associate professor of education. “It’s all about collaboration and building that professional learning network.”

Responses to the format and the event itself from past participants have been overwhelmingly positive, and more than 80 community educators are expected to attend Edcamp this fall.
All community educators are welcome, including superintendents, principals, paraprofessionals, teachers, homeschool parents and teacher candidates.

“Edcamp is a great way to have professional conversations with other educators and to share resources and ideas with them,” said Dawn Wambold, a fourth-grade teacher at Greeneview Elementary. “I have gained many resources and ideas to use immediately in my classroom from attending Edcamp.”

Giveaways will be awarded at the end of the event, and educators can earn Continuing Education credit by participating in Edcamp.
