Reno stepping down as Academic VP

Reno Steps Down to Serve Family

by Michaela Carpenter, Public Relations Writer

Lt. Gen. (Ret.) Loren Reno will step down from his role as vice president for academics at Cedarville University, effective June 30. He will continue to serve Cedarville as professor of management and special adviser to the president.

Reno, a 38-year veteran of the United States Air Force, came to Cedarville University in 2012 as the inaugural dean of the School of Business Administration. He held this position until 2015, when he was appointed vice president for academics.

For Reno, a highlight of serving as vice president has been working closely with the university’s academic deans and chairs.

“Seeing their eagerness to serve, ability to make ‘greater good’ decisions and willingness to provide good counsel has been a great pleasure,” said Reno. “It was their leadership that has helped the academic division accomplish so much, so well. I can’t thank them enough.”

Reno’s decision to step down as vice president for academics came largely from a desire to serve his family well, he explained. It will allow him to better minister to his wife, children and grandchildren and take care of personal matters.

While Reno is looking forward to more time with family, he hopes to continue serving at Cedarville in other ways. Whether that’s advising Cedarville University president Dr. Thomas White, mentoring others or continuing to teach, he looks forward to contributing.

In whatever roles he may serve, Reno said Micah 6:8 will continue to drive him “to do justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with my God.”

Dr. Tom Mach, assistant vice president for academics and professor of history, will replace Reno.
