Pharmacy Students Receive Prestigious White Coats

Cedarville University’s School of Pharmacy will recognize its newly enrolled class of professional students during its fifth-annual white coat ceremony. The induction will take place on Saturday, Sept. 10, at 10:30 a.m. in Cedarville’s Dixon Ministry Center.

The event will recognize 48 students who have been accepted into the doctoral program (Pharm.D.) this fall. With this new class, the professional program has an enrollment of 170 students; 272 are enrolled in the university’s pharmacy program overall.

Cedarville offers a three-year pre-professional program, followed by direct entry into four years of doctoral-level studies. Once students are admitted into the graduate program, they receive a white coat which symbolizes their commitment to becoming a health care professional and the responsibilities that come with it.

“A white coat is typically symbolic of professionalism, integrity, honesty and patient care,” said Marc Sweeney, Pharm.D., dean of the school of pharmacy.

The recognized students will also recite a statement of commitment to the profession. And, for the first time, the ceremony will have an alumna, Kasandra Chambers, Pharm.D., as a guest speaker. Chambers graduated with the school’s inaugural class in May 2016.

“Now that we graduated our first class, we move to a stage of expansion and growth. As we become more established as a school of pharmacy, we hope to not only become better at what we do, but strategically grow in terms of our student numbers and expand opportunities for students too,” said Sweeney.
