Writing Center Observes International Celebration

by Madi Cannon, Public Relations Writer

Cedarville University’s Writing Center will celebrate International Writing Center Week from February 13-17. Nearly 100 students are expected to participate in the annual event, celebrated by writing centers across the globe.

Throughout the week, students can practice their creative self-expression through a “self-portrait” contest and an erasure poem contest. Erasure poetry is created by erasing words from an existing text to create a new poem.

The Writing Center hopes this event will help students better communicate their thoughts. One contest allows students to create, while the other allows them to deconstruct something, explained Isaac Mayeux, assistant writing center director and assistant professor of English.

“The goals of the event are to recognize international writing center week and to sponsor a fun event that will create more interaction between the Writing Center and the student body,” said Matt Werneburg, a senior English major and writing center tutor. Werneburg, along with two other Cedarville students, is involved in the planning and promotion of the event.

Founded in 2002, the Writing Center helps students write well so they can think well. At any stage of the writing process, students can receive one-on-one peer consultation adapted to their individual needs.
