Cedarville University alumna Anya Izyumtseva has been named “Teacher of the Year” by the National Pedagogical Dragomanov University in Kiev, Ukraine. She is a senior lecturer in the English philology department at the university, where she has taught since 2003.

Izyumtseva’s journey to Cedarville began in the Ukraine in 2007, when she met Dr. Steve Gruber, then a professor of education at Cedarville, who was lecturing at a conference for Ukrainian teachers. Gruber encouraged her to apply to Cedarville, and she soon began Cedarville’s Master of Education program. She graduated with a master’s degree in education in 2013.

“To have an educational experience like Cedarville’s had always been my hidden wish, but it seemed so unrealistic that I had never let myself even think about it,” explained Izyumtseva.

During her time at Cedarville, Izyumtseva grew spiritually and academically under the guidance of dedicated professors. Her education courses at Cedarville taught her not only how to be an excellent teacher, but how to invest in the lives of her students.

“I am thankful to all professors who taught me and led me through the years of my education at Cedarville University,” said Izyumtseva. “Their wisdom will always be present in my professional and personal life.”

“Anya is a very conscientious and dedicated educator,” said Gruber. “She glorifies God through her excellence in preparation for all that she does.”
