  • Avoid using templates with embedded tables (difficult to edit and take up valuable space)
  • Use one page unless your experience is extensive.(Recent graduates should use only one page.)
  • Stress your accomplishments vs. listing generic job responsibilities.
  • Avoid personal pronouns and abbreviations.
  • Do not use a picture or share personal information (weight, height, age, health, religion, or race).
  • Use short statements instead of complete sentences (beginning with ACTION words).
  • Do not date your resume.
  • Do not list salaries or amounts of scholarships.
  • Always be truthful about your accomplishments and background.
  • Print your resume on heavy bond paper in a professional color (white, ivory, beige, or gray).
  • Seek advice from professionals before and after writing your resume.
